Dmitry Medvedev, deputy head of Russia's Security Council and chairman of the United Russia party, United Shipbuilding Corporation Сhairman of the Board Georgy Poltavchenko, St Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov, Presidential Envoy to Russia's Northwestern Federal District Alexander Gutsan and Presidential Special Representative for International Cooperation in the Arctic and Antarctic Artur Chilingarov inspect the new Russia's Severny Polyus (North Pole) ice-resistant floating research self-propelled platform on the Shipbuilder's Day at the Admiralty Shipyards in St. Petersburg, Russia. The platform is completing tests and preparing for the first trip to the Arctic latitudes. Its first real voyage will come in 2023, when the Severny Polyus will sail into Arctic waters for a two-year expedition. The ship is designed to be able to drift with the Arctic currents without interruption for two years.
