North Pole 1 first floating station launched 80 years ago

On June 6, 1937, the world's first Soviet polar research drifting station North Pole (North Pole1, NP, SP1) was launched. Its staff included station head Ivan Papanin, meteorologist and geophysicist Yevgeny Fedorov, radio operator Ernst Krenkel and hydrobiologist and oceanographer Pyotr Shirshov.
