Leonid Brezhnev's 95th anniversary of birth

Leonid Brezhnev, politician, general secretary of the CPSU Central Committee and four-time Hero of the Soviet Union, was born on December 19, 1906 O.S. He was born January 1, 1907 New Style, but preferred to celebrate his birthday on December 19, probably to avoid mixing it with New Year’s celebrations. \nFrom February 1939: Secretary for Propaganda at the Dnepropetrovsk Regional Committee of the Ukrainian Communist Party. \nFrom 1941: Deputy Head of the Political Directorate of the South Front, Head of the Political Department of the 18th Army and the Head of the Political Directorate of the 4th Ukrainian Front.\nIn 1950-1952: First Secretary of the Moldovan Communist Party’s Central Committee.\n1953 – 1954: Deputy Head of the Main Political Directorate of the Soviet Army and the Navy. \nFrom February 1954: Second, from August 1955 First Secretary of the Kazakh Communist Party’s Central Committee.\nIn 1952-1953, 1956-1960 and 1963-1964: Secretary, and in 1964-1966 First Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee. \nFrom 1966: General Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee.\nAt the same time, from 1977: Chairman of the Presidium of the USSR Supreme Soviet.\nDuring Brezhnev’s terms in high-level posts, conservative tendencies prevailed in politics and negative processes prevailed in the economy as well as in the social and spiritual lives of society. The Brezhnev era was called The Era of Stagnation. An ease of tensions internationally due to a series of agreements with the U.S., Germany and other countries, was followed by the intervention into Czechoslovakia in 1968 and Afghanistan (1979).
