The first phase of Central International Airport Vnukovo was commissioned July 2, 1941. \nA resolution stipulating construction of the new airport was passed in 1937.\nThe airport was built in 1939-1941.\nThe first phase of Central Airport Vnukovo was commissioned on July 2, 1941. However, a fighter regiment and a paratrooper unit were stationed there during World War II. \nIn December 1946, the First Detached Civil Air Fleet group was established, and the Special Purpose Aviation Regiment was converted into the International Air Traffic Group.\nVnukovo Airport became the first international airport in Moscow.\nOn July 1, 1954 the Vnukovo Line Operation and Maintenance Shops were established for aircraft maintenance. The airport later accommodated new jet aircraft, which were tested in the vicinity.\nOn September 15, 1956, a Tupolev Tu-104 Camel airliner completed the first commercial flight along the Moscow (Vnukovo) – Omsk – Irkutsk route.\nOn April 24, 1961, a Tupolev Tu-114 Cleat long-haul airliner flew from Moscow to Khabarovsk for the first time.\nThe Vnukovo Consolidated Air Detachment was established in January 1963. It was based on the airport’s aircraft and technical divisions.\nTupolev Tu-134 Crusty airliners launched regular scheduled service in 1964.\nA Tupolev Tu-154 Careless airliner completed its first commercial flight on February 19, 1972.\nIn October 1979, the airport initiated the technical testing of the Ilyushin Il-86 jumbo jet and its subsequent commercial operation. \nThe airport was renovated in 1980 and its capacity expanded.\nTupolev Tu-154-M airliners started operating in January 1986, and Tupolev Tu-204 airliners began service in August 1994.\n
