Stepanovs family. Vasily Stepanov (1908-1943). Vasily went to the front in the first days of the Great Patriotic War. He fought in near Kerch in Crimea in the 553rd artillery regiment. Once he was performing an important assignment in the enemy's rear. In 1942 he was taken prisoner but managed to flee. In November 1943 Vasily was taken prisoner again when performing a mission on behalf of the guerrilla unit "For Homeland". He was shot by Germans in Nikopol, Ukraine, in December 1943.01.06.1974#2897242
Yepistiniya Stepanova (1874-1969) -- was awarded with the orders "Mother-Heroine" and the Patriotic War, First Class. She had nine sons who were killed during the wars. Her son Fyodor was killed in action in Khalkin Gol (Mongolia) in1939. Her sons Pavel, Vasily, Ivan, Ilya and Filipp perished during the Great Patriotic War, fighting at the front and in guerrilla units and in death camps. Her youngest son Alexander was posthumously awarded with the title of the Hero of the Soviet Union for courage and combat valor during the crossing of the Dnieper River in 1943. She received a death notice for her son Nikolai but he returned home from hospital in August 1945. Nikolai was sick for a long time and died of wounds.01.06.1974#2897241
