Born in 1927, Denisenko was a teenager when the war began. He served as a marine infantryman, fought against Japan, and continued his service with the Red Banner Amur Military Flotilla until 1951. After the end of the World War Two, Denisenko moved to Donbass and worked as an underground mechanic at the Lidievka mine.
