Court hears Bulgaria shipwreck case

The St. Petersburg city court has announced its verdict on the Timur Kacharava murder case. Andrei Shabalin, the only one of the neo-nazi culprit gang charged with murder, is sentenced to 12 years in maximum-security prison. The other six were charged with assault and battery. Moskovkin is sentenced to three years, and Panasov and Golovlev to two years each--all to serve their term in general-security prison. Another three have suspended sentences with three-year probation--Ushakov and Semyonov convicted to three years each, and Yefremov to two years. Timur Kacharava, a student and anti-fascist activist, was stabbed and battered to death in the street, in broad daylight, in November 2005.
