Some restored frescoes, which were reportedly painted by an unknown student of Theophanes the Greek, have an area of several square meters. The Church, which was built in 1352, was demolished during the 1941-1945 Great Patriotic war against Nazi Germany. And its frescoes fell to the ground. Restoration work subsequently began under a Russian-German project. On August 26, 2003, the completely restored Church was reopened in an impressive setting. In the winter of 2003, experts started restoring church frescoes comprising about 1.7 million fragments of different size.

The sizes of some fresco paintings are several square meters and according to scientist belong to an unknown student of Feofan Grek. The church was constructed in 1352. During the Great Patriotic War the church was completely ruined and fresco paintings fell. The restoration of the church and frescoes started due to a Russian-German project. The opening ceremony of the church was held on August 08, 2003. That winter the work on fresco restoration saw its beginning. There were 1.7 million pieces of church fresco paintings of different size.
