Riot police officers guard in a street during student protests in Paris, France. The initial wave of protests began last month at high schools in Paris' poor northern suburbs and quickly morphed into a nationwide movement against inequality, weak public spending and falling standards. The demonstrations also involve far-left activists, supporters of the "Yellow Vests" movement, taxi drivers, nurses, construction workers, and trade union representatives.
