

World War II veteran Mikhail Popov, 101, receives congratulations ahead of Victory Day, marking the 81st anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany in World War Two, in Tiraspol, Transnistrian region, also known as the unrecognized Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, Moldova. He was conscripted into the army in August 1944. He took part in the Soviet-Japanese War as a mortar operator. Mikhail Ivanovich was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd Class, and the medals "For Combat Merit" and "For the Victory over Japan".
