

World War II veteran Vladimir Gromov, 99, receives congratulations ahead of Victory Day, marking the 81st anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany in World War Two, in Tiraspol, Transnistrian region, also known as the unrecognized Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, Moldova. He served in the Red Army from September 1943 as a machine gunner. He took part in the liberation of Latvia and in the elimination of the Wehrmacht’s Courland grouping. Vladimir Ivanovich was awarded the Orders of the Patriotic War, 1st and 2nd Class, the Order of Glory, 3rd Class, and the medal "For the Victory over Germany".
