

World War II veteran Ivan Olenin, 101, receives congratulations ahead of Victory Day, marking the 81st anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany in World War Two, in Lugansk, Lugansk People's Republic, Russia. Ivan Fyodorovich was conscripted into the Red Army in October 1943. He served as a squad commander in the 112th Separate Reconnaissance Artillery Battalion. Olenin took part in the liberation of Poland and the assault on Berlin. He was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd Class, and the Order of the Red Star, as well as the medals For Combat Merit, For the Liberation of Warsaw, For the Capture of Berlin, and For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945.
