

World War II veteran Aspek Dzhumashev, 102, receives congratulations ahead of Victory Day, marking the 81st anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany in World War Two, in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. In 1941, after the outbreak of the war, he was conscripted into the Red Army and joined the 74th Rifle Regiment, where he carried out duties guarding railways. In 1944, he was redeployed to Leningrad and later to combat nationalist insurgents in western Ukraine. Dzhumashev received multiple awards, including the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd class, and various medals.
