

World War II veteran Grigory Skripov, 100, receives congratulations ahead of Victory Day marking the 81st anniversary of victory over Nazi Germany in World War Two in the settlement of Solnechny, Chelyabinsk Region, Russia. During the war, Skripov served as a crew member of an SU-152 self-propelled heavy howitzer on the 3rd Belorussian Front. He took part in the battle for Koenigsberg and later fought against Japanese forces in the Far East, Manchuria and Korea. He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner, the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd class, as well as the medals “For Battle Merit”, “For the Capture of Koenigsberg”, “For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945” and “For the Victory over Japan”.
