

A World War Two veteran, Honorary Citizen of Tambov 98-year-old Alexander Khramtsov, poses with his book at his home, in Tambov, Russia. In 1941, when the war started, he graduated from the seventh grade and worked on the "Red October" collective farm. In 1944, he was drafted into the army, where he served as a military pilot in the 60th Guards Attack Aviation Regiment in Bratislava. He flew an Il-2 when taking part in approximately 30 combat missions during the Prague Offensive. After the war, he continued his service in the army and then worked in education and community service in Tambov. In 1991, he retired, actively participating in the veterans' movement, and wrote two books about the Great Patriotic War. He was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd class, the Red Star, the Order of Peoples' Friendship, and the medals "For Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War" and "For Valiant Labor during the Great Patriotic War".
