

People attend the Beskozyrka (Sailor's Cap) memorial event marking the 83rd anniversary of the landing of Soviet Black Sea Fleet marines under the command of Major Tsezar Kunikov on an area on the southern edge of the city known as Malaya Zemlya (Small Land), which was occupied by German troops during World War Two, at the memorial in the Square of Heroes in Novorossiysk, Russia. The heroic defence of this strip of land lasted 225 days and ended on the morning of September 16, 1943 with the liberation of Novorossiysk from the Nazis.
