

The tragic sinking of the passenger ferry Admiral Nakhimov occurred on August 31, 1986, 13 km away from Novorossiysk. The incident became one of the biggest marine disasters in Soviet history. Admiral Nakhimov collided with the bulk carrier Pyotr Vasev in the Tsemes Bay. The passenger liner sank in just eight minutes after toppling on the right side. The wreckage caused 423 deaths.
