

The 1958 Brussels World's Fair (Euro 58), the world's first major fair held after World War II which took place on April 17 - October 19, 1958. The pavilion of the USSR was recognized among the best, with its exhibit receiving the highest award, the Golden Star. Photo: a life-size scale model of Sputnik-2, the second spacecraft launched into Earth orbit, is exhibited in the Soviet pavilion at the fair. Sputnik-2 (PS-2), launched on November 3, 1957, was also the first one to carry a living creature, the dog Laika, into orbit.
