Ovechkin became the best sniper in the history of the National Hockey League (NHL), surpassing Canadian Wayne Gretzky's legendary record for regular-season goals. On April 6, he brought his total goals in the championship to 895 pucks by scoring in the match against New York Islanders. Gretzky's previous all-time record of 894 pucks stood for 26 years and was considered nearly unattainable.
