

The Hellenic Republic. The ancient Dionysus Theater on Acropolis Hill in Athens ranks among the oldest theaters and became the first theater to feature tragedies by Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides, as well as comedies by Aristophanes. Built in the 5th century BC, the theater accommodated up to 17,000 spectators.
