

The Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. Right: Lieutenant Commander Grigory Shchedrin, commander of the Soviet S-56 submarine. In the autumn of 1942, Grigory Shchedrin's S-56, along with six other submarines of the Pacific Fleet, made a voyage to the Northern Fleet across three oceans and nine seas. The route, more than thirty thousand kilometers long, ran through the entire war-torn world. During the 153-day voyage, the submarine covered 16,632 nautical miles and, upon arrival in Polyarnoye, was assigned to the 2nd division of the Northern Fleet submarine brigade.
