

People pay their respects next to the coffin of Soviet and Russian cardiac surgeon Renat Akchurin who died on October 6 at the age of 78, during a farewell ceremony before his funeral at the Myasnikov Institute of Clinical Cardiology in Moscow, Russia. Akchurin, Deputy Director General for Surgery at the Chazov National Medical Center of Cardiology of the Russian Health Ministry, was an internationally recognized authority in the field of cardiovascular surgery, who created in Russia such branches of heart and vascular surgery as cardiac microvascular and hybrid cardiac surgery.
