

Professor and anthropologist Viktor Zvyagin, DSc (Medicine) made this sculptural portrait of Russian seafarer Vitus Jonassen Bering on the basis of his skull data, after studying the Commodore's burial site and conducting medical-anthropological research. From October 1991 through June 1992, Bering's bones were studied at the Research and Development Institute of Forensic Medicine, affiliated with the Russian Ministry of Healthcare.
