A man donates blood at the Blood Centre of the Russian Federal Medical Biological Agency (FMBA) in Moscow, Russia. The National Blood Donor Day is marked in Russia on April 20. Its history is associated with the even in 1832 when obstetrician Andrei Volf transfused blood to a woman in labour from her husband and thereby saved her life. This was the first such procedure in the country, which started the development of blood donation in Russia.
