The Soviet-Japanese War (August 9 - September 3, 1945) pitted the Soviet Union and the Mongolian People's Republic against the Japanese Empire and Manchukuo. In this photo, Soviet officers are meeting with prisoners of war at the Mukden camp, liberated in August 1945 by units of the Red Army's 262nd Rifle Division, part of the 39th Soviet Army's 113 Rifle Corps. The camp's inmates included soldiers from the United States, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Australia and New Zealand.
