On October 14, 2016, the Ivan the Terrible Monument, the first one in Russian history, was unveiled in Oryol. It is located on a river embankment near the Theophany Cathedral. A team of sculptors, Andrei Sledkov, Alexei Petrov and Alexei Dmitriyev, designed the monument under the supervision of Merited Artist of Russia Oleg Molchanov, Associate Member of the Russian Academy of Arts, ahead of the 450th anniversary of founding the city-fortress.
