The XV Summer Olympic Games (July 19 - August 3, 1952) in Helsinki (Finland). In the discus thrower competition at the Helsinki Olympics, the entire podium was Soviet. The first Olympic gold medal was brought to the USSR national team by track and field athlete Nina Ponomareva-Romashkova. Three Soviet athletes are seen on the podium during the award ceremony, from left: Yelizaveta Bagryantseva (silver), Nina Ponomaryova-Romashkova (gold), and Nina Dumbadze (bronze).
