The Tolga Convent of the Presentation of Virgin Mary, one of the oldest convents and monasteries in the Yaroslavl Region, was founded in 1314 after the finding of the Icon of Virgin Mary of Tolga. The convent was shut down during the Soviet period. The first Russian convent opened in the autumn of 1988 following the long-time persecution of believers. The convent was restored under the guidance of Mother Superior Varvara (Tretyak). This old postcard, property of philocartist (postcard collector) Yury Mazurov, shows the Tolga Convent before the revolution.
