The Holy Vvedensky Tolga Monastery is one of the oldest in the Yaroslavl region. It was founded in 1314 after the acquisition of the Tolga Icon of the Mother of God. During the years of Soviet power, the monastery was closed. In the autumn of 1988, after severe persecution of faith, the first convent in Russia was opened. The revival of the monastery took place under the leadership of abbess Barbara (Tretyak). Documentary cinematographer Yury Shapovsky is filming on the territory of the Tolga Monastery.
