

Lao People's Democratic Republic. One of the country's religious and national monuments, the temple of Pha That Luang, is one of the biggest symbols of unity of Laos and Buddhism. It was built in 1566 at the order of King Setthathirat on the site of a former Khmer monastery. The full name of the temple means "the world's precious and holy stupa."
