

The incident with an Ilyshin Il-62 in New York City. A diplomatic incident that began on August 24, 1979, when an Ilyushin Il-62 flying to Moscow was detained due to the presence on board of the Soviet ballerina Lyudmila Vlasova, whose husband, soloist of the USSR Bolshoi Theater Alexander Godunov, asked for political asylum in the United States. Godunov convinced the US authorities that they wanted to take his wife to the USSR by force. The airliner was held by the American side for three days before permission to take off was received on Monday, August 27. Meeting the liner at Sheremetyevo Airport.
