The Monument was opened on 9 May 1975 in honor of the heroic resistance of Leningrad in 1941-1943 and the defeat of the German Fascist troops under Leningrad in 1944. Sculptor Mikhail Anikushin. Architects S. Speransky and Valentin Kamensky.
