Tajik SSR. A 5.5 destructive earthquake in Gissar Valey on January 23, 1989. Landslides and mud flows destroyed the villages of Sharora, Okuli-Bolo and Okuli Poyen killing 274 people. Construction equipment is used to clear the debris.
