

May 26, 1982. Tashkent, the Uzbek SSR. Unveiling the People's Friendship Monument in an impressive setting. The monument symbolizes the heroic feat of the family of Shoakhmed Shamakhmudov and Bakhri Akramova, sitting center, who adopted 15 orphaned children from various Soviet republics during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. The monument was built to a design by sculptor D. B. Ryabichev and architects L. T. Adamov and S. R. Adylov.
