Hero of the Soviet Union Air Lieutenant General Mikhail Machin (Retired), a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, and his wife. From September 1939 through May 1944, he headed a military mission of the Red Army's Air Force in Alaska, the United States. General Machin helped organize and implement US aircraft shipments under the Lend Lease Act.
