Anchors from the ships of the Russian fleet which were based in the Port of Naoussa during the First Archipelago (Aegean) Expedition (1769-1774), are pictured at the marina of Naoussa in Paros Island of the Cyclades archipelago, Greece. The expedition "Flame of Chesma. The Greek Gambit" of the Russian Geographical Society, following in the footsteps of the 18th century Archipelago expedition to the Eastern Mediterranean, explores the islands of the Aegean Sea which were part of the Russian Archipelago province formed in 1770 after the defeat of the Ottoman Fleet in the Battle of Chesma, and the underwater area where ships of the Russian fleet were based, and subsequently destroyed.
