The Armenian nuclear power plant outside of Metsamor city has two generating units with the Russian-made VVER-440 reactor of the V-270 type. The first generating unit was launched in 176 and the second one in 1980. It is the only nuclear power plant in the South Caucasus built with consideration for the high seismic activity in the region. It produces about 30 percent of Armenia's total energy. The plant's engineers attend a daily briefing.
