The Assumption Cathedral (Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary) was erected in 1699. The monument to Basil I - the Moscow prince Vasily (Basil) the Dark, founder of Plyos - is the first and only monument to Prince Basil the First, the son and heir of Dmitry Donskoi, the long-term ruler of the Russian land, and the only monument to the pre-revolutionary Plyos. It stands in the historical center of the city on Cathedral Hill, towering over the Volga. The monument, designed by sculptor S. Aleshin, was unveiled in 1910.
