Member of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences (now Russian Academy of Sciences) Alexander Konovalov separated two conjoined twins from Lithuania, Vilija and Vitalija Tamuleviciute, who were 11 months. The surgery took place at the Burdenko Moscow Institute of Neurosurgery. The twins six months after the surgery.
