View of the Volga River from Cathedral Mountain in Plyos. The Church of St. Barbara, not far from the river bank, is an important landmark on the panorama of Plyos. Built in 1821 to replace the former wooden church from 1702, it is a modest provincial church and a sample of mature classicism, its volumetric and spatial arrangement typical of the 17th century.
