Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic. On December 7, 1988, a 10 magnitude earthquake hit Armenia completely destroying the city of Spitak and 80% of its second largest city, Leninakan (now Gyumri). Other cities and villages in northern Armenia were also affected. Rebuilding Leninakan.
