Alexei Yablokov, Soviet and Russian biologist, corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences, a public and political figure. In 1989 he was elected People's deputy of the USSR by scientific societies and associations of the USSR Academy of Sciences and became deputy chairman of the Committee n the Environment of the Supreme Council of the USSR and member of the coordination council of the inter-regional group of deputies.
