Flowers are placed to the monument at the abandoned village of Babchin, outside the 30-km exclusion zone around the Chernobyl nuclear reactor, some 370 km southeast of Minsk, Belarus. The village inhabitants were relocated due to radioactive pollution after the Chernobyl disaster, the territory was included within the zone of the Polessky Radiation and Ecological Reserve. The area is closed for general public access but from May 8 to May 11, the reserve management allowed visitation of cemeteries located within the zone. Aligning with Radunitsa - the day of remembrance of the dead, which in 2021 falls on May 11.
