Azeri police officers and servicemen check documents as they patrol streets during the curfew in Baku, Azerbaijan. On September 27 clashes erupted between Armenian and Azeri forces along the line of contact in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh. Both Azerbaijan and Armenia accused one another of shelling civilian settlements. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev approved the imposition of martial law in a number of cities and regions of the republic and curfew in the country, and also declared partial mobilization.
