Pinot Noir is one of the oldest varieties. It is believed that it was the ancestor of Chardonnay, Aligote, Gamay Noir, Pinot Blanc and many other famous varieties. The reasons lie in its genetic instability. Grapes grown on its own vineyards are used for wine production at the "Lefkadia" winery, in Krasnodar region, Russia.
