A part of a fresco from series "The life of Washington" and a monument to Gearge Washington are pictured at George Washington High School in San Francisco, California, United States. "The life of Washington" frescoes were painted in the mid-1930s by Russian emigrant Victor Arnautoff, who was a Communist party supporter and depicted George Washington in a critical light, showing him as a slave owner and a leader of the nation that annihilated Native Americans. The school board voted to remove the mural but later deferred the idea following public outcry against it.
