A statue to George Washington is installed at the entrance of George Washington High School in San Francisco, California, United States. "The life of Washington" frescoes were painted at the school in the mid-1930s by Russian emigrant Victor Arnautoff, who was a Communist party supporter and depicted George Washington in a critical light, showing him as a slave owner and a leader of the nation that annihilated Native Americans. The school board voted to remove the mural but later deferred the idea following public outcry against it.
