

Traditional fortified Svan towers are pictured in the village of Mestia, Svaneti province, some 550 km northwest of Tbilisi, Georgia. Georgia's mountainous region Svaneti province is home to the Svans, a subgroup of the Georgians, who have a distinct language. Svan towers refer to the tower houses built as defensive dwellings with the oldest ones dated to 9th century.
