On November 17, 1970 the Soviet Luna 17 automatic spacecraft soft-landed on the Moon near the Sea of Rains delivering the self-propelled lunar rover Lunokhod 1. This shot was made on February 17, 1971 by the rover's onboard telephotometer, capturing a panoramic view of the lunar surface at one kilometer from the landing platform.
