The Mars 3 automated station, the third generation Soviet automated interplanetary station from the Mars spacecrafts series. The station was designed for exploring Mars from the orbit as well as at the planet's surface. For this reason the station was equipped with a lander. The Mars 3 was developed at the NPO Lavochkin.
